Fertility and Sarcoma Treatment

Dr. Paul Meyers: Many of the treatments that we employ for sarcoma may put your fertility at risk. For men it is relatively easy to ensure that they have the ability to preserve their future fertility: they can carry out sperm banking. But even for women, there are some new techniques that are coming into availability which may offer the opportunity to preserve fertility for women as well. Most importantly, we will always try to design the therapy in such a way as to minimize the risk to your fertility.

In addition, it's critical that you know that when young adults have gone on to have children after treatment for sarcoma, their chances of a healthy child are the same as any other parent. No one is guaranteed a healthy child, but they do not have a higher risk of having a child with birth defects or cancer.
