Challenges in Sarcoma Research
Dr. Dina Lev: One of the major problems in investigating sarcoma is the fact that this is not one disease but rather a large group of different disease. It's almost like investigating breast cancer and colon cancer and pancreatic cancer all together. So although they are very heterogeneous, they are also very rare. And the rarity of this disease makes it very hard to put together bio-resources that will enable us to do the investigations we want. And when I say that, I mean resources such as cell lines, human tissues and animal models. With the lack of those it becomes much more hard to really ask biological questions and get very good and reproducible answers.
So the main way to solve this problem is really to work together, groups of investigators in a multi-disciplinary fashion. And I think if we do work together, we can have much more insight into this disease.
