Solid Tumor Trials and Sarcoma

Dr. Richard Gorlick: I think when a patient is investigating clinical trials for sarcomas, they need to look at whether or not there are trials that are relevant that are under solid tumor listings. I think when looking at the solid tumor trials one has to be somewhat cautious, and the reason one has to be cautious is sarcomas are not like caricnomas. They are a different type of cancer and they tend to respond to different agents. Something that is very promising for a carcinoma may not be very promising for a sarcoma, and it's worthwhile trying to investigate that data.

I think data can be available by contacting the principal investigators for the trials. I think frequently they have a lot of information and I believe them to, in general, be honest and present their trials fairly. I think reviewing the literature [can be helpful]. A lot of articles that address how an agent is effective are available on public sources like PubMed, and it's worth looking to see what information is out there.
