Chemotherapy Agents that
are Platinum Compounds
There are a number of chemotherapy agents
which are considered platinum compounds:
carboplatin,
cisplatin, and
oxaliplatin. They contain platinum
complexes which are believed to inhibit DNA synthesis by forming interstrand
and intrastrand cross-linking of DNA molecules. They are cell-cycle-phase
nonspecific and are considered to be radiation-sensitizing agents.
Carboplatin
-
Carboplatin is frequently used as one of
the chemotherapy agents for stem cell rescue; see the
Stem Cell Rescue page for the research results for stem
cell rescue with carboplatin.

carboplatin with ifosfamide might cause renal tubular toxicity.

abstract detailing results of a
Phase 2 trial of carboplatin; 1/15 CR for Ewing's. Plus 4/7 of the
patients who responded to carboplatin had had cisplatin previously
Cisplatin

tumorigenicity and drug resistance.

IX protocols. The SSG IX protocol employed cisplatin and other
chemotherapy agents.
