Voices That Will Be Heard

Scores of people are working to make the Team Sarcoma 2006 project a truly international event focused on raising public awareness of sarcoma and raising funds for sarcoma research. It now appears that there will be well over 500 people involved in a variety of events that will be occurring during July 1-7, 2006 at many different locations worldwide. Plan to join in one of these events if you are anywhere nearby. You will be more than welcomed by everyone and I'm sure you will enjoy it as well.

The 48 participants in Denmark who will be on the Team Sarcoma 2006 Bike Tour consist of patients, caregivers, survivors, family members and friends who have lost a loved one to sarcoma, volunteers and other who are coming from Ireland, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Taiwan and many states within the USA. If you’re in Denmark during July 1-7, please join this group for a day trip ride.

These participants will be joined by a number of local Team Sarcomas that are being formed in various countries throughout the world. A local Team Sarcoma is a group of people who "Bike, Run, Walk, or Swim for Sarcoma" on one or more of the days that Team Sarcoma 2006 is biking in Denmark. As part of this effort, Team Sarcomas are currently being formed at the following cancer centers that are acknowledged to be among the finest such centers in the entire world. Each of these teams involves oncologists, nurses, and sarcoma patients, caregivers, and survivors, families and friends who are joining together to support the activity:

	Team Sarcoma/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Massachusetts: Bike/Run/Walk for a Cure in Quincy, MA on July 1
	Team Sarcoma/Fox Chase Cancer Center in Pennsylvania: Walk for a Cure at Fox Chase in Philadelphia, PA on July 6
	Team Sarcoma/Huntsman Cancer Center in Utah: Hike and BBQ at City Creek Canyon, UT on July 7
	Team Sarcoma/Moffitt Cancer and Research Institute in Florida: 3-Mile Beach Run/Walk, Clearwater Beach, FL on July 7

The West German Cancer Center in Essen has formed a Team Sarcoma/Essen that is planning a 35 KM Bike Tour. Team Sarcoma/Essen is also known as Team Sarcoma/GIST or Team Sarcoma/GSI as GIST Support International was integrally involved in its formation.

Several sarcoma advocacy organizations are also involved in our efforts and the following groups have already or are in the process of forming a Team Sarcoma:

	Team Sarcoma/Abigail Alliance: Bike for a Cure and Concert in St. Petersburg/Tampa, FL on July 1
	Team Sarcoma/Abigail Alliance: Bike for a Cure in Houston, TX on July 1
	Team Sarcoma/Desmoid Tumor Research Foundation: Hike to the top of Masada, Israel on July 13
	Team Sarcoma/Jennifer Hunter Yates Sarcoma Foundation: Walking the Freedom Trail for a Cure, Boston, MA on July 2
	Team Sarcoma/Northwest Sarcoma Foundation: Biking for a Cure: Oregon on July 2
	Team Sarcoma/Sarcoma Alliance: Run for a Cure, Mill Valley, CA on July 2
	Team Sarcoma/Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma: 40-mile Ride for a Cure on part of the PMC Route, starting in Wellsly. MA on July 2

We are currently working with the Sarcoma Foundation of America to form a Team Sarcoma. Lastly, various groups of patients, caregivers, survivors and family and friends are forming the following local Team Sarcomas:

	Team Sarcoma/Denmark: Bike for a Cure in Vedersø, Denmark on July 2
	Team Sarcoma/Hong Kong: Bike for a Cure in Hong Kong on July 6
	Team Sarcoma/Russia: Visiting Cancer Centers for Sarcoma Awareness, Moscow on July 2-7
	Team Sarcoma/Sweden: 300 KM Bike Event, Vatten, Sweden, July 7

and, in the USA:

	Team Sarcoma/Alaska: 250-mile Ride along the coast of Alaska on July 1-7
	Team Sarcoma/KeeperEdge (A Soccer Camp for Goalies): KeeperEdge for a Cure, July 2-7, Danville, KY
	Team Sarcoma/New York: Spinning for a Cure, Westchester County, NY on July 2-7
	Team Sarcoma/North Carolina: 5K Run/Walk for a Cure (Duke’s Campus), NC on July 3
	Team Sarcoma/Texas: Walk for a Cure Texas, TX on July 2
