Sarcoma Post-It ® Notes Full of Links
by
Bruce Shriver
Like many of you, I’m constantly writing things down on Post-It ® Notes and attaching them on a relevant surface – e.g., sticking a phone number on the refrigerator door, sticking a reference to look up in a book that I’ve been reading on the front of the book, posting the URL of a website that I’d like to visit on the side of the monitor where I can easily see it. Eventually, I’ve got so many Post It notes on a given surface that I wind up rearranging them and tossing some. The useful ones usually end up occupying the most visible portion of the refrigerator, the book, or the monitor.
As each of us travels through the sarcoma landscape, we identify some of our favorite links – sarcoma centers, sarcoma advocacy groups, clinical trial sites, drug information sites, and so on. Some of us use our browser to store these links by using its “Favorites” or “Bookmark” feature. Some of us create a document or a spreadsheet containing them. Some of us use Post-It ® Notes and paste them on our monitor or a wall near our computer. Often, these methods lack organization, become cluttered, and lose usefulness.
We’ve created a website, which we call Sarcoma Post-It ® Links, that we hope addresses these problems. It contains a few screens of Post-It ® Notes. Each Post-It ® Note contains links to websites that we have found useful. It's very easy (and intuitive) to use. Here is a screen shot of the fist page of it (click on it to see a large picture).

By clicking on any of the names written on one the Post-It ® Notes, you are taken to the website you've clicked on. You can rearrange the Post-It ® Notes by clicking on the title of one and moving it to where you want it on the screen. If a Post-It ® Note is partially hidden, click anywhere on it and it will immediately appear visible. To view the second set of links click on the "2" in the lower right hand corner of the screen and to view the final set of links, click on the "3". The time and date are given in the small white rectangle in the upper right hand corner (putting your cursor on top of it, allows you quick access to a simple calendar). Note all of the "health news feeds" on page 3 — BBC Health, CNN Health, New York Times Health, Reuters Health, ABC News Health, and the Electronic Sarcoma Update Newsletter. The contents of these news feeds are instantaneously changed whenever any of these news sources broadcasts a new health news item. When you click on a story, you are taken to the detailed article. You can hide the small "pop-up" that sometime appears in the lower right hand corner of a page by clicking on the phrase "Hide this warning".
Please let us know what you think of the Sarcoma Post-It ® Links website after you've used it for a while. Please send suggestions for additions and deletions and instances of broken links to us by clicking here,
